A day on the golf course is turning into something much bigger for local students in Palm Beach County.
A special tournament is coming up on June 6 at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, all aimed at raising money for scholarships for local graduates heading to the University of Florida.
The event is organized by the Palm Beach County Gator Club, a group that supports UF students and alumni while helping fund scholarships for students from the local community.
Warren Corpus with the Palm Beach County Gator Club and Alexa Bishop, a former scholarship recipient, visited ARC Florida on April 30.
Bishop is now wrapping up her junior year at UF.
She said receiving the scholarship made a major difference in her college experience, helping ease the financial burden and allowing her to focus on academics.
The scholarship selection process focuses on local students who are headed to UF, with organizers looking at academic achievement, community involvement, and overall merit.
The annual golf tournament is one of the club’s biggest fundraisers, helping make those scholarships possible year after year.
